Career as a Physician
Coming to the brass tacks, physicians can be categorized into two main types, namely, The Doctor or Medicine or M.D. and the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. The Doctors of Medicine are also known as allopathic physicians; however, let there be no doubt that both the types of physicians use all the accepted and prevalent methods of treatment which would include drugs, as well as, surgery. Also, the Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine are more often than not primary care specialists and practice general internal medicine, general pediatrics or family medicine, under the aegis of health services.

A physician will generally work in one or more specialties. There are many such specialties that are a part of health services which include amongst others, gynecology, surgery, general internal medicine, pediatrics, general pediatrics, anesthesiology, general medicine, psychiatry, and obstetrics etc. A career as a general internist would see you providing non-surgical treatments for a variety of ailments that affect the internal organs of a person's body.
Where You Will Work
Most physicians, especially those who are general or family practitioners, psychiatrists, obstetricians, gynecologists, or general internists, work from clinics or private offices. They are assisted in this regard by quite a small staff of nurses and various administrative personnel. Over a period of time it is increasingly common to see a group of physicians practicing together or a physician who is a part of a large healthcare organization. If and when you consider a career as a physician in health services it must be remembered that it is a highly demanding occupation not only when it comes to education and training but also when it comes to actual practice.
